SoCal Debbie UCJC Start #24

Y2K!! Do you remember that term and all the associated drama that went along. People were certain that their PC's would stop working and all their money would disappear from the banks. We were still in Alabama at the time, and oh my the military was on high alert that New Years Eve, but it all turned out ok. In 2000 we hosted two exchange students, a Japanese and a German, my husband was reassigned to Korea(without me) and I was reassigned to the UK (yippee!!). Truly a year of change.

SoCal Debbie UCJC Starts #22 and #23

Here are Santas 1998 and 1999. We were living in Alabama at the time courtesy of the USAF and it is the year we chose to host an exchange student. She was an 18 year old from Poland and it was an adventure. That is all I am going to say about that hosting experience.

SoCal Debbie UCJC Start #19, #20, and #21

I decided to put a few starts together in one post due to TUSAL and IHSW postings this week. Here are the last of the 1980's Prairie Schooler Santas. PS designed their first Santa in 1984. As a matter of fact 1984, 1985 and 1986 Santa patterns did not have the year printed on the front of the card under the picture, that started happening in 1987.   As for Santa 1987, I finished stitching him up in December (started in Jan 2013), you can see him here.

TUSAL Jan 2015

Here is my first TUSAL post for 2015, my ort jar has been busy and it needs to be emptied.  Here it is for your viewing pleasure.  I need to stop putting trash in my orts.  Once I dump it I think I will let it fill up for the rest of the year.  I did that a few years ago and dumped the orts in the yard for the birds.

SoCal Debbie UCJC Start #18

Here is the sweet Santa from 1988. In 1988 I moved from a mountain top remote assignment in southern Japan to Yokota AB, near Tokyo. Thinking I would only be there for 2-years and ending up staying for six. Life is full of surprises.

The 1989 Santa is here. This is the year that I took a train to Tokyo, stopped at the US Embassy, signed a few papers and left married to the sweetest man in the world. How can a girl get so lucky? Lots of happy memories and more being made each year. This will be one of the Santas that I keep forever and ever.

SoCal Debbie UCJC Start #16

Here is the PS Santa from 1990. I don't think he is one of my favorites, I may have to do a little color editing on this one. I do like hat with the gold trim, nice change from white. The year 1990 was my 4th in Japan. I would live there for 8.5 years and meet the love of my life. I truly enjoyed the Japanese way of life.

SoCal Debbie UCJC Start #15

This is the year, 1991, that I moved to the 12-hour shift position in Japan. (If you have been reading my previous posts I am working backwards--sorry for the confusion.) What was I thinking!! Actually, it was a pretty decent assignment as it was a joint-service position so I got to work with folks in the Army and Navy. I also got a take a trip to Hawaii to visit our HQ during that tour--so not bad at all.  I like this fruity Santa.

SoCal Debbie UCJC Start #14

This is PS Santa 1992.  In 1992 my husband and I were stationed in Japan and I was working 12 hour shift 3-on/3-off.  Don't miss that schedule one bit.  I think this may be the only Santa in the collection with a yellow coat.

I have had a few questions in the comments about what I plan to do with the Santas.  Right now I plan to gift them to family, friends and teachers.  I will hold back some significant ones to put on the family tree.

PS Santa 1997.  Every time I see the alphabet in a piece I automatically think "teacher gift".  Something to consider with this one since I have two in middle school and one in elementary--that equals lots of teachers.
